When you hear your child coughing and sniffling, you know winter is near. Flu season is just around the corner. Reduce the chance of getting the flu? A few tips.

You should pay attention to this.

Wash your hands

Sounds logical but very important, and not only in winter: wash your hands regularly. Germs are often spread by touching doorknobs and shopping carts or shaking hands when you’ve just coughed into them. With our hands we spread bacteria all day long.

Teach your child hygiene

Learned young is done old. Teach your children the importance of good hygiene from an early age. For example, teach them to cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze. Another habit you can develop is not to touch their faces all the time. Try not to pick your nose or put your fingers in your mouth. Bacteria usually enter the body through the mouth, nose or eyes.

Ventilate areas well

Make sure you ventilate your house and other places where many people are close together, so that bacteria do not linger in the air. Open a window, leave a ventilation grille open or – in the summer – turn on the air conditioning.

Keep snotty visitors out of the door

Sounds a bit hysterical, but: make sure that as few people as possible come over who clearly have a cold or are ill. Not pleasant, but being ill for weeks on end is no fun either.

Fresh air and daylight

Get some fresh air every day. Fresh air and daylight are very good for your health. Moreover, taking a nice winter walk is a nice outing. Do dress nicely.

Take a rest

Being sick and taking care of your offspring is not pleasant to say the least. Take good care of yourself to prevent worse complaints. Do you feel a bit cold or are you very tired? Try to get some rest between the morning and evening rush hours. You can prevent a lot of misery by stepping on the brakes in time.

Healthy food

Everyone knows that healthy eating is important. To give a virus as little chance as possible, it is important that you eat a lot of vegetables, fruit and slow carbohydrates. So serve your children wholemeal pasta and wholemeal bread and opt for brown rice instead of white rice. Avoid processed foods as much as possible.

Drink enough

Make sure you get enough fluids. By drinking enough, you have to go to the toilet more often and your body gets rid of waste, so that a virus has less chance to settle in your body.
