Get more out of the Marktplaats app
Of course you use the Marktplaats app to find nice things on your iPhone, or to place an advertisement yourself. In principle, that is also sufficient and you will achieve your goal. But the Marktplaats app has even more tricks that make it a lot easier to use. We’ve listed a few for you!

1. Save search
If you are looking for something specific, you can of course check every day whether it is now for sale. But that can be easier! In the Marktplaats app you have the option to save a search query, so that you automatically receive a notification when new advertisements have been placed that match your search term.
To do this, search for the item in question as you always do. Add some filters if necessary and make sure that you are searching in the right category. Then all you have to do is tap the “Save” button in the top left to save the search. To delete a search, do the following:
- Tap on ‘My Marketplace’;
- Tap on ‘Searches’;
- Disable the button behind the search in question.
2. Register for Payment Requests with iDEAL via Marktplaats
With the help of Payment Requests you can safely pay and receive payments within Marktplaats. You do have to register for it once. It goes like this:
- Go to ‘My Marketplace’ and tap ‘Payments’;
- Tap on ‘Activate now’;
- Enter your phone number and tap ‘Request code’;
- Enter the code and tap ‘Verify’;
- Pay 0.01 euros to confirm your account.
If you still want to unsubscribe from Payment Requests, go to ‘My Marketplace’, tap on ‘Settings’ and then on ‘Then you can unsubscribe here’.
3. Complete your profile
The third of these iPhone tips for the Marktplaats app is about your profile. This is important, because the more information you give about yourself, the more trustworthy you appear to potential buyers. For example, in the Marktplaats app you have the option to indicate whether you are a private seller or a business seller. You can also add a profile picture, and add your zip code and telephone number.
We recommend that you fill in everything. You determine whether your telephone number is visible with each individual advertisement you place. To top up, go to ‘My Marketplace’ and tap the gear (Settings) at the top right.
4. Make sure Map view is turned on
When your advertisement is also visible on the map of Marktplaats, you increase the chance of a sale. You can find the option as follows:
- Tap on ‘My Marketplace’;
- Tap the gear (Settings) at the top right;
- Make sure the ‘Map view’ option is activated.
You can enable this option with confidence, because your exact location is not shown.
5. Adjust the Marktplaats notification settings
By default, you regularly receive push messages from Marktplaats, for example when you receive a new message or offer. An e-mail notification is sufficient in many cases, so it is good to check the Notification settings of the app. You can find it here:
- Tap on ‘My Marketplace’;
- Tap the gear (Settings) at the top right;
- Scroll down and tap “Notification Settings.”
6. Other tips for the Marktplaats app
The last of these iPhone tips for the Marktplaats app will help you find what you’re looking for faster. There are then a number of things you can do. For example, you can use a so-called Boolean search. An example of this is the use of the word ‘NOT’. For example, are you looking for a game, but don’t want ‘Game of Thrones’ in your results? Then type ‘game NOT thrones’. In the same way you can use the words ‘AND’ and ‘OR’.
Also keep in mind that not all products are spelled correctly and in the correct category. It is therefore a good idea to also search for a misspelled name and/or in all categories. It’s a matter of experimentation and luck, but it can certainly be worth it. Always ask yourself if it is a serious advertisement.
To sell faster and better, it is especially important that you take good photos. That’s fine with your iPhone, but pay particular attention to the background and the lighting, which quickly makes a big difference. If you sell clothes, you may be more successful with an app like Vinted.
