Maybe you know it: if you are just planning to buy an app, you have to enter the password of your iPhone (actually your Apple ID). What was that again? There is often nothing else to do than change your password via the special Apple website. Or not?

There is an easier way to change your iPhone or iPad password. You do that in the following way.

Change iPhone password: the easiest way

  1. Tap on ‘Settings’;
  2. At the top of the screen, tap your Apple ID (with your name);
  3. Choose ‘Password and security’;
  4. Tap “Change Password” and enter your iPhone’s passcode;
  5. Type a new password behind ‘New’ and repeat it behind ‘Verify’;
  6. Then tap on ‘Change’.

Change access code

Have you lost your Apple ID password, but your iPhone passcode? Then it gets more difficult. You then need a Windows PC with iTunes or a Mac. You also have to grab the cable of your iPhone. Then follow the steps below to change your iPhone password.

  • Turn off your iPhone;
  • Press and hold the side button and connect iPhone to your computer (on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, use the volume down button, on iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, and earlier, use the Home button);
  • Hold the button until you see the recovery mode screen on your iPhone;
  • Find the iPhone in the Finder or iTunes on the computer it’s connected to;
  • When presented with the option, choose ‘Restore’ and wait for the recovery process to complete.
