this is what the new version does
Another new Android version? Google has announced Android 12L, a variant of the previously released Android 12. The new version offers a number of optimizations for a certain group of devices, but what exactly can you do with it?
Android 12L
Android 12L, which is the name of the latest Android version. Yet it actually has no major adjustments compared to the well-known Android 12. Android 12L is specially optimized for foldable devices, tablets and devices with Chrome OS. Google has now released the first Developer Preview version for developers. According to Google, there is a demand for an optimized Android version. The number of tablet activations grew 20 percent year-over-year. The share of foldables rose 265 percent, Chrome OS rose 92 percent year-on-year.
Android 12L has several APIs and tools that should make developing for devices with larger screens easier. Google notes that the large screen UI has been refined for notifications, quick settings, lock screen, home screen, overall view, and more. It is also possible to work with a layout of two columns for larger screens and system apps are also optimized.
Thanks to Android 12L, multitasking should also be made more powerful and intuitive. There is a new taskbar where you can switch directly to your favorite app. Even when using split screen, everything should run just that little bit better.
Google’s goal is to release Android 12L early next year. According to Google, it is time for the next wave of tablets and foldable devices with Android 12. There is already cooperation with major partners. More test versions will be released in the near future. Google has listed background information here.
