Samsung: Folding cell phones are the new standard

Samsung has just presented its fourth generation of fold and flip cell phones when Roh Tae-moon, the head of the group’s cell phone division, makes an interesting statement. According to him, foldable smartphones will no longer be just a niche product in just a few years. Instead he sees foldable cell phones as the new standard to (source: The Korea Herald).

Roh assumes that the fold and flip smartphones from 2025 for more than half of the turnover in Samsung’s premium segment. The focus on foldable smartphones also means that other cell phones are left behind. Samsung has already said goodbye to the Note series. Galaxy S cell phones will continue to exist, but they are no longer the focus of interest.

Last year, according to Roh “almost 10 million” Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 sell, an increase of more than 2 million. The Flip 3 was significantly more popular than the larger Fold 3. In Germany, Samsung expects a total of 500,000 units to be sold this year. According to analysts, 16 million foldable smartphones could be sold across manufacturers in 2022, and even 26 million next year.
