This is the first Android Auto app that can open your garage
Opening the garage from your car has been possible for decades, but it still feels futuristic if you do. Now you can do that with Android Auto, because the car platform is equipped with a brand new app that allows you to open the garage.

Android Auto apps have always been in short supply. You could use some media apps and navigation apps, but otherwise it was a bare bones affair. That is now getting better, with a weather app, SmartThings from Samsung for your smart home and soon even Zoom. Android Auto is becoming more and more extensive in this way, but something will soon be added in the form of Tailwind.
Tailwind is a company that makes remote controls to open your garage door, but also digital ways to do that. It has now created the first unique Android Auto app that lets you do just that. Handy, because you can drive into the garage in one go and you don’t have to get out of the car or look for a remote control. Tailwind -of course- only makes it available in combination with its own Tailwind system, because you must of course have a system to open your garage door automatically.

You can buy such a Tailwind system for $ 80 via the company’s website, although you will still have to pay $ 35 for shipping, which brings the total to 106 euros. In addition, your garage door must also be of a certain type in order to use the device. The advantage is that you do not have to pay extra to use Tailwinds within Android Auto. Once it’s all set up and working, all you have to do is tap the app to open and close your garage. There seems to be some seconds of delay, but well, that’s the case with a normal remote control too.
There are useful applications for it, for example if you have two cars. That way you can both open your garage from the car (because you only get one physical remote control with the system). It is also nice that you can see the status of your garage door in the app, if you are afraid that you forgot to close it early in the morning with your unawakened head after you left for the traffic jams again.
