This is how you turn on YouTube’s ‘dark mode’

Rest for your eyes is sometimes nice after a lot of screen time, so turn on YouTube’s dark mode.

We spend a lot of time on our smartphones every day. We also watch TV and maybe a quick movie on the iPad before going to sleep. We often also sit in front of a laptop or PC for work or study. So one day we look at a screen for a long time. It is nice for your eyes to turn on the night mode.

YouTube’s dark mode

That brings some peace to your eyes. This is especially important before going to bed. Many people then watch a video on YouTube. The night mode then helps you get a good night’s sleep and prevents ‘computer eyes’. This results in eyestrain, headaches or blurred vision.

Turn on night mode as follows. Of course you have to go to YouTube first and log in. If you don’t have an account, then sign up for one. That’s how it’s done. If you are logged in, click on your profile in the top right corner. You can also do it without logging in, just click on the vertical ellipsis “⋮” in the top right corner. This opens a menu. It says ‘Appearance’ in between. It’s next to a crescent moon icon. Click on it and that will open another menu.

There you will come across ‘Dark theme’. The name says it all, that’s the night mode. This also includes ‘Light theme’, if you would like to go back after the white design. Or choose “Use device theme” if you want YouTube to adapt to the rest of your device’s theme settings.
