This is how you can request your Instagram data
The European General Data Protection Regulation is far more than a legal behemoth. It is also very helpful, especially for private individuals. If you want to request your Instagram data, you can simply make an Instagram GDPR request. It’s that easy!
Data protection. This is an uninteresting to annoying topic for most people. Since the entry into force of European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on May 25, 2018, our everyday life is filled with data protection guidelines.
This starts on the Internet with annoying pop-up windows and data protection notices and ends in the doctor’s office or in the telecommunications shop when a new contract is signed. Then it is often said: “And please sign here quickly for data protection.”

In fact, it’s not the first time that Meta’s development team has managed to hide helpful functions in the jungle of settings. This also applies to requests for saved Instagram data.
These are hidden neither in the “Security” nor in the “Privacy” area – anyway, clicking on the settings is wrong per se. That’s why we explain the right way to your Instagram data below.
- Open Instagram and click your profile picture in the right bottom corner.
- Then use the three lines in the top right corner to navigate to the menu and click “your activity” at.
- At the end of the overview there is the area “Download your information‘ – click on it.
- You have now arrived at the target page. After entering your email, close the process with “request download” away.
Instagram GDPR Request: Wait up to 30 days
To ensure the security of your personal data, you must enter your password again at the end. As soon as you have verified yourself in this way, the waiting period begins.
Because while Apple, for example, collects and compiles all your data within seven days, Instagram allows itself a whole month – 30 days to be precise. That is a relatively long period of time.
As soon as the data package has reached us, we will write another article about the content and form of the compiled information.
