This is how you can find out if you are affected
Support-off for Google apps under Android – what at first glance reminds of Huawei’s big problem is actually a step taken by the search engine company to ensure the security of its applications. Accordingly, only a few users are likely to be affected. But what exactly?
Android users excluded from Google services: who is affected
Google will exclude users of earlier Android versions. However, only consumers are affected who still have very old versions of the operating system running on their devices, namely Android 2.3.7 or older. For these people, Google will have access to its apps Block from September 27th. The company has announced this (source: Google).
Anyone who is still using such an old Android on their smartphone, for example, will no longer be able to log into the Google services with their account from September 27th. This applies to, among other things classic search engine app, but also Google Maps and YouTube. Community manager Zak Pollack explains in the company blog that anyone who wants to log in after this date will produce a password or username error.
This can also happen if you change your password via another device and then the passwords are synchronized under the old Android version – it was started in 2011 – or after a factory reset. The reason for this step is given by Google the advancing security measures. Therefore, the company recommends upgrading to a newer version, at least Android 3.

Android smartphone without Google services: you have to do that now
If you don’t have the option to upgrade your Android device on your old device, you have two options: get a more up-to-date smartphone or do without the Google apps. Only the apps are affected, not your Google account. So you can continue to use the offers if you agree via the web browser of your smartphone logs in to google. However, this is much more complicated than – if possible – performing an upgrade.
It is easy to find out which Android version you have installed on your smartphone: Go to the settings and then to the menu item for more information “About the phone”. There you will find which operating system is installed and in which version. If you find Android 3 or higher there, you are currently on the safe side.
