Facebook dark mode

Facebook has provided all its apps with a dark mode, such as Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. The Facebook app was the last to have that option and you can set this dark mode very easily. But why would you? Well, a dark mode offers many advantages. First, all the white screens in the Facebook app will be darkened. That looks calmer, especially if you want to check your messages in the bedroom without illuminating the entire room. A dark mode can also save power with AMOLED screens, because displaying white areas on these screens costs more energy than with LCD screens. Unfortunately, Facebook does not use a deep black display but dark gray tones. Thus, AMOLED displays will not benefit from additional power savings when using dark mode in the Facebook app.

Enable Facebook dark mode

Want to turn on dark mode in Facebook? Then follow the steps below.

1. Open the Facebook app
2. Tap the three lines at the top right
3. Scroll down and tap Settings and privacy and then on Institutions
4. Scroll down to the option dark mode and tap it
5. Now choose your desired setting (on, off or System Settings)

With the System option, the Facebook app will follow your system settings. This means that the app automatically takes over the theme from your phone. If your phone is set to the light theme, the Facebook app will follow that theme. The other way around it works exactly the same. With option 5 you can of course also choose On or Off, regardless of which theme your phone uses.
