Google has published a new edition of Year in Search. Here we see the Google Trends of 2022, where we see which searches were most popular in the Netherlands. What were we most looking for?

Every year, Google gives us an overview of the most popular searches of the past year. We saw this last year, but now Google has published a new overview. It was a year in which a lot happened. It is therefore not surprising that the most searched topic on Google in 2022 is ‘Ukraine’. We also often searched for Jeroen Rietbergen, Viaplay, Ali B and Testing for Access. We also searched for deceased persons; such as Queen Elizabeth and Piet Paulusma.

Google has also published the well-known list of the most popular ‘What is?’ searches. In the Netherlands we searched most often for ‘What is Pentecost?’. Furthermore, the questions ‘What is a hermaphrodite?’, ‘What is 2G?’, ‘What is nitrogen?’ and ‘What is NATO?’ the most popular. We also searched for Johnny Depp, Amber Heard and Vladimir Putin in the last 12 months. In the field of Sustainability and Environment, we searched most for Climate Change, Storm Eunice and Electric Heater. The most searched athletes were Marc Overmars, Suzanne Schulting and Andrew Tate. In the Google Trends of 2022, we also see that the programs and series, BOOS, Boer seeks a woman and Stranger Things were searched for. In terms of technology, we were most looking for the Wordle game. Followed by iPhone 14, James Webb Space Telescope, WhatsApp Disruption and FIFA 23.
Belgium
In Belgium, the most searched for Ukraine Russia war, My health, VRT Max, iPhone 14 and climate change. The three most popular questions asked by Belgians to Google were 1. Why is Putin invading Ukraine? 2. Why was cornflakes invented and 3. Why are bananas crooked?
Worldwide
If we look at Year in Search 2022, we also see Ukraine at the top of searches. However, there was also a lot of search for Wordle, India vs England and Queen Elizabeth. In Germany, in addition to Ukraine, people often searched for the 9-Euro ticket and the World Cup football, where Germany did not get very far this year. It was also asked how old Putin is and why Russia invaded Ukraine. Germans also asked why diesel was more expensive than petrol and the necessary searches also came in from Germany about the Sahara wind.
