These mini wind turbines are suitable for almost every house roof

The US start-up Aeromine has developed a wind turbine that can apparently be mounted on almost any building. The mini wind turbines can therefore also be combined with solar systems.

Sustainable energy sources will presumably dominate the market in the future. Homeowners are already taking part in the energy revolution today – for example by installing solar systems on their roofs. But a wind turbine on the roof was previously considered utopian. But that could change soon.

Because the US start-up Aeromine wants to make this possible with a new type of mini wind turbine. The system is about three by three meters in size and does not require rotor blades. In addition, since the system is relatively compact, landowners can install it alongside solar panels. Because without rotor blades, there is no background noise that a wind turbine produces in regular operation.

But how does the system actually work? Aeromine takes advantage of the aerodynamic effect of the ground on which the facility is placed. So-called air foils deflect the wind hitting the building in such a way that negative pressure is created below the system. A propeller installed in the lower part of the system rotates and thus generates energy.

The technology is said to be cheaper than solar panels and at the same time generate around 50 percent more energy. The system also eliminates a major disadvantage of solar energy: In many places, the wind also blows at night. The system therefore produces energy continuously.

System could be available to everyone by the end of 2023

Aeromine plans to sell the facility in several stages. The first option is to use it on office buildings or storage facilities. This is because these roofs are mostly flat, which makes installation easier. The company is also currently testing its system on the roof of a BASF factory in Detroit.

If the test phase proves to be successful, according to Aeromine, there is nothing standing in the way of using it for private households. Then theoretically everyone could put a wind turbine on their own roof. Market maturity is expected to be reached in 2023.
