These iOS 15 features are already experiencing lag

iOS 15 is almost out, but the new iPhone software is a lot less complete than Apple has promised. These 5 iOS 15 features are already experiencing lag.

Read on after the ad.

These iOS 15 features suffer from lag

1. SharePlay

Let’s start with one of the biggest innovations in iOS 15: SharePlay. This feature is best seen in a more extensive version of FaceTime. During a video call you can enjoy the same movie or songs with friends, while you see each other. SharePlay syncs in the background, so no one is ahead or behind.

Apple has not (yet) announced when SharePlay will come to the iPhone. Since the feature wasn’t scrapped until one of the last betas of iOS 15 (version 6) we don’t think it’ll be long before release. iOS 15.1 or 15.2 may add SharePlay.

2. Privacy Reports

iOS 15 introduces all kinds of privacy features, but you’ll have to wait until after the release for the most important ones. Apple has known that the so-called privacy reports are not directly present in iOS 15.

Privacy reports show how (not) closely apps handle your privacy. You will soon find the option in the Settings app of your iPhone. The reports show per app how often the program accesses sensitive iPhone parts such as your camera, Photos app and microphone.

3. Universal Control

Technically, this feature is not covered by iOS 15, but the postponement of Universal Control is of course very unfortunate. This feature lets you use a Mac’s keyboard (or trackpad) to control an iPad in addition to your computer. This is very cool, because you can, for example, drag files from one device to another.

4. Feature You Hope You Won’t Need Soon

We’d love to use most of iOS 15’s features, but there are exceptions. For example, we prefer to ignore the ‘Digital legacy’ function.

As the name suggests, Apple has added this capability to iPhone to help keep your digital legacy, or that of others, on the right track.

It works simple: you designate a contact person in your iPhone who can manage your account if you die. It is not yet clear when Apple will add this feature.

5. Even More iOS 15 Features Delayed

There are even more iOS 15 features related to lag. Take, for example, the announced Home Keys, which allow you to unlock smart locks via the Wallet app on your iPhone. This is of course very handy, because you can forget your house key without immediately getting into trouble.

Also postponed: the detailed maps of CarPlay. In a select number of world cities, Apple will start delivering very accurate maps in Apple Maps, the counterpart of Google Maps, later this year. For the Dutch, this is not very bad news for the time being, because the service is initially rolling out in places such as New York, London and Los Angeles.

Finally, Apple has also postponed its ‘driver’s license replacement’. In iOS 15, there will be a function that (for now only) Americans can use their iPhone as a driver’s license. How? By adding the card to the Wallet app. Apple had no plans at all to release the feature in the Netherlands.

When is iOS 15 coming out?

Currently, the iOS 15 public beta is in full swing. That’s good news for Apple fans, because it means the new iPhone software is almost out.

We expect iOS 15 to be released around the same time as the iPhone 13 event. This event is rumored to take place in mid-September. For now, September 14 seems the most likely date.
