These internships can earn you over $9,000 per month

It is well known that tech companies from Silicon Valley or banks on Wall Street usually pay above average. Also that often a large part of the money has to be put into the high cost of living.

Companies such as Google, Meta or Blackrock also pay internship positions significantly better than many schoolchildren or students are used to from German companies. The current shows how much money flows Glassdoor Ranking of the 25 best paying US internship positions.

So there is good news for interns – at least in the USA. Because 87 percent of paid internships were at least $15 an hour. On average, companies pay almost $25 an hour, eleven percent more than in 2021.

Anyone who hires the payment service provider Stripe, the leader in the internship ranking, can earn up to $9,064 a month. After all, Roblox pays $9,017. The gaming platform was the leader last year at $9,667.

In third place is Nvidia ($8,280), ahead of Coinbase ($8,206) and Meta ($8,160). Overall, the top 25 pay at least just under $ 7,000 and more.

It is unclear whether the tech and financial industry, which has recently been badly hit and affected by bankruptcies and mass layoffs, will be similarly generous in terms of remuneration for internships this summer. The payment refers to information between the beginning of March 2022 and the end of February 2023.

For better orientation, the Glassdoor ranking therefore also contains a kind of outlook on possible business development. Things are not looking so good for Coinbase, Meta and Credit Suisse. Twitter received the worst forecast.

Interestingly, Google is not among the top 25 companies this year when it comes to well-paid internship positions. The search engine provider is the best example of the fact that you don’t have to look far to get above-average pay.

In the summer of 2022, an intern in Switzerland caused a stir when he reported on social media about his salary at Google’s Zurich office. According to this, his monthly salary should have been around 9,000 francs (9,200 euros / 10,000 dollars), as it is at watson.ch is called.

The student, who studies in Germany at the RWTH Aachen University, had to delete the corresponding videos after the media quake it triggered. However, if you look at the average salary of interns in Switzerland – 4,360 francs per month – the Google salary doesn’t seem that high anymore.

For comparison: In Germany, interns would earn around 1,900 euros a month if they paid the minimum wage and worked a 40-hour week. Bring mandatory internships for which there is no legal entitlement to remuneration on average at least a little over 1,000 euros.
