We have just left the May holidays and Ascension Day behind us, but the long Pentecost weekend is already around the corner. It promises to be nice weather, so go: out with your offspring! We selected the best outings with Pentecost for you.

In any case, there is no boredom.

Pentecost fair

Spin in the merry-go-round or – for the real daredevils – in the Bungee Catapult. Pentecost fairs are being organized throughout the Netherlands this weekend. For example, you can go for a dose of cotton candy in Delfzijl, Almere, Heerenveen, Rotterdam and Zeist.

Food festivals

Gourmets get their money’s worth in various places, because food trucks are displayed throughout the country during the Pentecost weekend. We list a few great food festivals:

  • Fête du Champagne: May 25-29 in Amsterdam
  • TREK – May 25-29 in Utrecht
  • Hap Stap Festival – May 26-29 in Tilburg
  • Lepeltje Lepeltje – 26-29 May Amersfoort and 27-29 May in Apeldoorn
  • Mout Bierfestival – May 26-29 in Arnhem

Day of the Castle

All princes and princesses gather: on May 29, Whit Monday, it’s the Day of the Castle. Fun activities are organized in many castles in the Netherlands. This edition is all about the staff of medieval castles and estates, which used to (and still do) play an important role. Where to go? These are the best castles to visit with children.

Festival Hinterland

A visit to Festival Achterland in Doetinchem – in their own words the cosiest village in the Achterhoek – guarantees hours of fun. With good food, fun theater shows and beautiful performances, there is plenty to do for young and old. You need a ticket for Thursday 25 May, from 26 to 29 May admission is free.

Oranjewoud Festival

At this musical festival – which takes place in the fairytale Parkland Oranjewoud in Heerenveen – you will find a real Family Zone. Children from 3 to 13 can play to their heart’s content in the Cacophony Orchestra or enjoy Toddler Sounds. From 26 to 29 May you can enter for a small fee with a festival wristband or separate tickets for specific performances.
