iOS 16 has only just been released, but a new beta has already appeared. These are the new features of iOS 16.1 beta.

iOS 16.1 beta: new features

Are you already a bit used to iOS 16? The new operating system was released on September 12 for the iPhone 8 and newer. However, Apple is not sitting still and has now released a new beta. The beta of iOS 16.1 (for developers) contains a number of new features. We have listed them for you.

1. New Lockscreen Options

When you want to adjust the lock screen in iOS 16.1, you will now be able to choose between the lock screen and the home screen. This is easier because with iOS 16 you now have to select your lockscreen before you can adjust the home screen.

2. Matter Support

Matter is the new smart home standard and it looks like iOS 16.1 has now added support on iPhone. If a device has Matter certification, your new acquisition can be used in HomeKit, Google Home without any problems. Samsung SmartThings and Amazon Alexa.

3. Charging with green energy

There is an option in iOS 16.1 beta to only choose green power to charge the battery in your iPhone. Unfortunately, this option will not be available in the Netherlands.

4. Live Activities are back

In iOS 16.1, the Live Activities are back. These will soon be able to show the score of football matches live, for example. For example, you can also see the status of your pizza you just ordered.

5. Delete Wallet App

In iOS 16.1 it will be possible to completely remove the Wallet app. In iOS 16 and earlier versions, you could delete the app, but not completely delete it. So now you can get rid of it completely (if you want to).

6. Battery percentage for each iPhone

In iOS 16, Apple added the option to return the battery percentage to the top of the screen. Only the iPhone XR and the iPhone 13 mini, among others, did not have this option. Now any iPhone that didn’t already have this option will have the option to show the battery percentage (always) in the status bar.

There is a new menu when you close the screen after editing screenshots. First there were options at the bottom with, among other things, ‘Save to Photos’ or ‘Copy and delete’. Now you will get a new menu in the top right corner.
