These are no ordinary LEGO bricks
Who didn’t grow up with LEGO? You probably know the characteristic colorful stones in your dreams. But these LEGO bricks are slightly different.
Would these stones also hurt if you step on them? The Danish toy brand has found a new way to produce bricks in an environmentally friendly way. The stones you see in the photos are made from recycled plastic bottles. The next time you throw away a plastic bottle, you think of LEGO. Bet?
It is not yet the case that the stones are immediately available in the shops. LEGO is experimenting with this new technology. With a liter bottle, LEGO can make about 10 bricks. The challenge for the manufacturer lies in the fact that you really want that solid LEGO feeling. After all, there are plenty of fake stones to be found on Ali Express. However, no one knows how to recreate that unique feeling of the real LEGO.
With the testing process, LEGO has tried several hundred different forms of recycled plastic to see which produces the best result. Ultimately, a choice will be made, but it is still unclear when you can also buy the sustainable stones in the store. Anyway, it’s coming.
