These 4 innovations are coming to the iPhone SE 2023

This year’s iPhone SE probably won’t be very spectacular. But for 2023, Apple has a much bigger update planned. We are looking forward to these 4 innovations of the iPhone SE 2023.

Read on after the ad.

iPhone SE in 2023 – 4 updates

In a few months, Apple will release a minor update for the second-generation iPhone SE from 2020. The cheap and compact iPhone SE 2022 will reportedly get support for 5G and an A15 processor … but nothing more. That’s how we still have to do with the old-fashioned design of the iPhone 8.

However, a year later, in 2023, we expect some big changes for Apple’s budget-friendly entry-level model. For example, there is a complete redesign, as well as features that we have never seen before on an iPhone. This is what you can expect for the real next generation of the iPhone SE.

1. A borderless screen

It is almost inevitable that the iPhone of 2023 will have a completely borderless screen. The current design is already old-fashioned, and next year it will be completely antique.

As always, Apple will reuse a design from an already launched iPhone for the iPhone SE 2023. And because all models (except for the iPhone SE 2020) now have a borderless screen, it is almost certain that the iPhone SE 2023 will also be full screen.

Which design it will be exactly, there are some more doubts about that. An iPhone XR/11 style with rounded corners? Or an iPhone 12 mini design, because the SE has always been experienced as ‘compact’? We will probably hear more rumors about this in the future.

2. Touch ID in the side button

The TrueDepth camera for Face ID isn’t just a neat feature for Apple’s flagship iPhones, it’s also one of the most expensive parts in an iPhone. Therefore, it is obvious that we will not get Face ID on the cheapest iPhone.

Instead, Apple is going to play the same trick as with the iPad Air 2020 and iPad mini 2021. With the tablets, a Touch ID sensor is incorporated in the on/off button, which scans your fingerprint. It seems to us a very logical choice if Apple will also use this technology for the iPhone SE 2023.

An alternative could be a Touch ID sensor under the screen, but because Apple wants to keep costs as low as possible, we are still leaning towards the power button.

3. A punch-hole camera

Finding a place for Touch ID isn’t the only challenge Apple has with the iPhone SE 2023. Because where is the camera? On the iPad Air and iPad, there’s enough bezel to fit the camera parts in there, but on the small SE screen, every millimeter counts.

Will there be a notch, but without Face ID? That would be a little weird. More plausible is a camera that is inconspicuously incorporated into the screen, a so-called punch-hole camera. This technique is not expensive and would therefore fit perfectly with the iPhone SE 2023. The notch would then be reserved for Apple’s most expensive products. Recently, even the screen of the MacBook Pro was equipped with a notch.

4. Crazy colors

It doesn’t matter whether Apple chooses the design of the iPhone XR/11 or iPhone 12, the iPhone SE 2023 will be a bit more colorful anyway!

There are rumors that the iPhone SE 2023 will get the same pastel colors as the iMac 24-inch and iPad Air. Another possibility is the somewhat more saturated colors of the HomePod mini.
