All iOS 14.7 features at a glance
You cannot download iOS 14.7 yet. The iPhone update is likely to come out this month or in July, but thanks to testing, we already know what new features are coming to your iPhone.
iOS 14.7 will probably not be very spectacular. The update is especially nice for people with a HomePod. In the run-up to the release of iOS 14.7, we will continuously update this overview of features. Are you reading along?
1. Timer for the HomePod
iOS 14.7 isn’t feature-rich, but it does add a handy trick for HomePod owners. You will soon be able to turn on timers via the Home app on your iPhone. Previously, this only worked through Siri, Apple’s “digital butler.”
That’s nice, because it allows you to switch on a timer, for example, if you are not in the same room as your smart speaker. You will soon find the new option in the Home app under the settings of the HomePod.
After you add a HomePod timer, it will start counting down. You can add multiple timers at the same time. This is useful, for example, when you are cooking a dish where you want to keep track of how long they have been heating for different ingredients.
2. iOS 14.6 battery issues fixed
iOS 14.6 came out in May and didn’t add a lot of features, but still caused a lot of problems. Many iPhone users complained after updating that their phone was draining much faster than before. Our own iOS 14.6 poll also shows that many readers have had battery issues since the update to iOS 14.6.
It is therefore almost inevitable that Apple tries to solve these problems with iOS 14.7. It is also possible that a premature update will be released. Haven’t updated to iOS 14.6 yet? Then it might be wiser to wait a while before downloading.

3. How clean is the air today?
Anyone who has ever been on holiday in the United States or the United Kingdom may know that your iPhone can indicate the air quality there. From iOS 14.7, this function expands to the Netherlands.
This way you can see exactly how clean (or polluted) the air is in Dutch cities. You can find the readings in both the Weather and Maps apps on your iPhone. Here you can see on the basis of the bar how good / bad the current air quality is compared to the average.
Apple does not measure air quality itself. BreezoMeter, a company that specializes in this, is called in for this. Thanks to these measurements, you can check the current air quality in almost all places in the Netherlands. If you don’t want to wait until iOS 14.7, you can already download the BreezoMeter app.
