There have been rumors about Diablo 2: Resurrected for a long time, but now it seems confirmed. The remake of the fan favorite is in the works and at the right studio.

A remake of Diablo 2 is in the works at Blizzard, according to a report from Bloomberg. After some restructuring at Activision Blizzard, the right developer now seems to have been found to give the popular Hack’n’Slay RPG a new coat of paint.

Originally should be Blizzard’s Team 1 take care of the remake, but that Warcraft 3: Reforged debacle moved the publisher to rethink. Only recently was Vicarious Visions Transferred from Activision to Blizzard and should now also be responsible for the remake of Diablo 2.

The remake pros

Vicarious Visions gained notoriety in the past through the successful remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 +2 as well as the Crash Bandicoot N’Sane Trilogy. So a studio takes care of Diablo 2 that has experience with remakes and already has successful implementations.

Blizzard has only officially confirmed that Vicarious Visions is now one of them. It was not announced that the studio was working on Diablo 2: Resurrected. The gradual dismantling or redistribution of the developers of Blizzard’s Team 1 also remains unconfirmed. Bloomberg reported that the publisher is slowly dissolving the “Classic Team”.

Diablo 2 enjoys great obesity with fans, but after two decades the classic could also use a little freshening up.
