there is a fake SMS circulating about a money withdrawal from the bank
Attention: There is a new trend among phishers: sending a text message about a money withdrawal from the bank. If it is not DHL that supposedly failed to deliver a package, or the Microsoft helpdesk that you call about your account, then it is this new SMS that is being distributed with the aim of stealing your data or money. Be warned yourself, but also let the older people in your life know, for example: these text messages cannot be trusted.
Fraud Help Desk
The Fraud Helpdesk states that it receives many reports about false text messages sent on behalf of the bank. It is written here about a money withdrawal that is wrong with it. It is not one bank that is chosen as the sender: the hackers pose as all kinds of different banks.
You can recognize the SMS by the text: “Note: Withdrawal refused.” A suspicious money withdrawal of 3,500 euros would have been made at a Geldmaat. The address and time are random, followed by a request to contact a specific phone number as soon as possible, if you did not do the recording yourself. If you actually call that number, you think you will get a bank employee on the line, but that is not the case.
Fraudulent SMS
As with other phishing scams, the person on the line mainly tries to show you that there is a hurry: everything has to be done as quickly as possible. Then someone would even come to the door to bring debit cards, credit cards and even an iPad. In the end, of course, this turns out not to be true at all and as a victim you will see that money is being withdrawn with your cards.
If you see such a suspicious message, do nothing with it. Well, maybe delete it, so it doesn’t scare you later.
