There has never been an AC like this before

Ubisoft is going full steam ahead with Assassin’s Creed! The studio currently has three Assassin’s Creed games up its sleeve – including Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, an offshoot of the series that cannot be compared to any of the other parts.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR: Assassination in Virtual Reality

Three Assassin’s Creed games are slated for release this year. In addition to Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which comes as a classic for PC and consoles and is intended to return to the roots of the series, Assassin’s Creed Jade will also be released exclusively for mobile – and last but not least there would be this mysterious Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR.

Ubisoft has revealed some new information about this as part of its in-house forward presentation. So the game is about for Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 2 appear – Facebook’s VR headsets, formerly known as the Oculus.

In addition, during the presentation it was also explained that in Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, for the first time in the series, players can assassinate their way through the ages with three different assassins:

  • With Cassandra will you go back to ancient Greece around 400 B.C. Dive under and fight back against the reign of terror of 30 oligarchs who at the time had Athens firmly in their grip.
  • With fan favorite Ezio Auditore da Firenze you will, however, travel back to Italy to meet old friends there, among other things. It is not yet known which people from Ezio’s past will support him again. However, we would be surprised if Leonardo Da Vinci were not part of the party.
  • With Connor Kenway you’re back in America and you have to clean up there during the 18th century.

Real gameplay scenes from Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR have not yet been shown, only pre-rendered animations and some ingame screenshots were shown. These should give you a rough idea of the finished game. However, we dare to doubt that Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR will play so quickly on the VR glasses.

No open world, but “open maps”

Good to know: A huge one Open world doesn’t seem to exist in Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. Instead, Ubisoft relies on a map concept that they themselves call “open maps”. The demarcated game zones should offer the players enough opportunities for movement. How the players proceed within the missions is up to them. Sneaking past the guards unnoticed, bypassing them completely over the city rooftops or facing them in open battle – all doors should be open to the players.

The hidden blade, air assassination and the infamous Leap of Faith should also be part of the game. who prone to Motion sickness will be happy to hear that the developers say they paid particular attention to this. Various mechanics such as teleport locomotion, vignetting of the peripheral field of vision and fading in game grids should help to prevent or at least minimize the discomfort.

If you want to catch up on the Assassin’s Creed saga again before Mirage, Jade and Nexus VR, you should hurry – because you have to plan a lot of time for that:

How well the Assassin’s Creed fantasy really translates to VR remains to be seen. But should Ubisoft manage to produce a convincing VR offshoot with Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, a long-standing dream should come true for many fans. Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR is scheduled to appear in 2023, but there is no specific release date yet.
