The world’s first iPhone with a USB-C connector | Video
In recent weeks, there has been talk that the European Union will officially force society Appleto start using the standard USB-C connector on its devices. According to the portal TheVerge The first iPhone with this connector has already appeared on the Internet. However, it does not come from Apple’s workshop. Behind him is Ken Pillonel, a student of robotic engineering.
The student had a prototype connector ready in May
It has placed a functional USB-C port on the Apple iPhone X, which allows the smartphone to charge and transfer data via USB-C instead of the standard Lightning port. Pillonel spent months of his free time on this project, consuming a lot of USB-C and Lightning charging cables to get to his final destination. Already in May, it created a simple prototype of the interface, which allowed charging the iPhone battery via the USB-C port.
Unfortunately, it was too big and could not be placed in the body of the smartphone, so the next step was to minimize the necessary elements. Using reverse engineering of Apple’s standard C94 connector, he created his own flexible PCB design that eventually fit into the device. Pillonel revealed his solution in the final video of the project, which he published on YouTube at the beginning of the week.
The video also shows how the Apple iPhone X with USB-C charges and transfers data. It is not clear whether Pillonel plans to disclose details of its own flexible PCB design so that others can try to modify it. He has previously modified the car holder for the Samsung Galaxy Fold so that the Xiaomi wireless charger can also work with this folding smartphone
