After many teasers, Apple TV + today releases the final trailer for The Tragedy of Macbeth. This Joel Cohen film features Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.

Trailer for The Tragedy of Macbeth

The distribution of The Tragedy of Macbeth includes Bertie Carvel, Alex Hassell, Corey Hawkins, Kathryn Hunter, Harry Melling and Brendan Gleeson. The film brings together regular collaborators of Joel Coen, including Bruno Delbonnel as director of photography, Mary Zophres as costume designer and a score by Carter Burwell. In addition to directing, Joel Coen is producing the film with Frances McDormand and Robert Graf. The film is a production of A24 and IAC.

The feature film is shot entirely in black and white with a ratio of 1.33 (4/3). This choice may come as a surprise these days, but it’s a way to share content in a different way. Zack Snyder also proposed a 1.33 format for his film Zack Snyder’s Justice League. So far, the film was in color. But the idea was to highlight the grandeur of the places and the characters. We can imagine that the thinking is similar for Joel Cohen.

The Tragedy of Macbeth will be available on Apple TV + on January 14, next Friday. The film has been released in a few theaters (mostly in the United States). Apple makes this choice each time to be eligible for the Oscars (movies only available to stream are not eligible).
