the Red Cross app supports you with CPR
On Saturday evening, June 12, it was quiet for fifteen minutes in European living rooms and cafes. Silent because of the fear for the life of a football player who had fallen to the ground. Rescuers successfully performed CPR: CPR saves lives. How can you perform CPR? The Red Cross first aid app can support you with this.

Such silence in the living room, on the street or in the bedroom can happen to anyone. Will you save the life of a loved one? A first aid course can offer a solution, but even without a course you can save another person’s life, regardless of whether they are a loved one or not. You can follow a step-by-step plan for resuscitation via the first aid app of the Dutch Red Cross. With an audiovisual accompaniment, the app helps you to resuscitate another person in the right way.
The home screen of the First Aid app shows you six buttons. Each button represents a serious threat to the life of another. If you click on such a button, the app immediately starts guiding you with the first aid you need to provide and the option is offered to call the (112-) emergency number. Make sure you turn on the volume, otherwise you won’t hear the guidance of the app and you have to constantly look at the screen.
Other First Aid Situations
Under the first six buttons for unconsciousness, heavy bleeding, burns, a patient who is not breathing and needs CPR, poisoning and severe choking, you will find a button to view other first aid situations. Phenomena are mentioned for each situation, so that you can assess and interpret the situation yourself. Below you will also immediately find what you can do. For example, in the event of a stroke, you should always check whether the mouth is crooked, whether the person can still be approached and whether the patient can turn the inside of his hands upwards. If you recognize (one of) these points, the First Aid app will ask you to call 112 immediately.
Unlike the first six situations on the home screen, the Red Cross app does not provide speech and visual guidance in the other situations. Fortunately, you know what to do and you do not have to be in uncertainty in the event of an accident. If you want to remove the uncertainty, you can also take a first aid course via the Red Cross first aid app. You can opt for a full first aid course, or a partial certificate for resuscitation and various other situations.
If you would like more information about resuscitation and advice during resuscitation, you can visit the website of the Heart Foundation, in the ‘Resuscitation app’ and on the website of the NRR (Dutch Resuscitation Council).
