The PSVR 2 headset is soon to go into full production -apkrig
Sony doesn’t keep the second generation PlayStation VR too secret. Although we have not yet seen the headset itself, the Japanese giant has confirmed the existence of the device, promised to connect with a single cable and did not hesitate to introduce prototype drivers that will be much more sophisticated than first-generation solutions. However, the question marks still hang over the timing of the actual launch, where we can only base our thoughts on the previous procedure for the original PSVR. The virtual reality headset on the PlayStation 4 came to the market less than three years after the console itself went on sale – in October 2016 – which would mean the Christmas holidays of 2023 when repeating the strategy on the current PS5. and now also speculation from China, which already marks 2022 as a possible launch date.
Just as a reminder, Bloomberg spoke about the launch over the next Christmas based on alleged information from Samsung, which is to supply OLED panels to PSVR 2, last June. for obvious reasons it is not possible. However, we can add that PlayStation Vice President Hideaki Nishino said during the unveiling of PSVR 2 that players should not have a headset count in 2021, which is a particularly specific definition, not excluding launches this year. And how does the latest news from China about Goertek, which has previously worked with Sony on the first generation VR headset and is partly behind the second generation Oculus Quest, fit in with this? According to information from Xueqiu magazine, production is said to start, and Goertek expects that “a new generation of VR headsets from a major Japanese customer will be launched in 2022.”
The report also states that 1-2 million headsets should be prepared for this year, with production still growing in 2023, but all likely to be subject to a situation in the field of semiconductor chips, which are in short supply worldwide, and leading technology. companies do not see the year 2022 at all optimistically. On the other hand, Sony can react by allocating a longer time to the production of the first wave and have it ready just for the exposed period of the Christmas holidays, which fits very well into the present reasoning. But there is still speculation, and until Sony representatives make an official statement, we can only argue about the device.
Just for context, Sony introduced a prototype of its new VR headset at the beginning of December last year – not just the PlayStation VR – to offer a combined resolution of up to 8K and several other technologies, which could also partially benefit a gaming headset. The presentation was supplemented by a video and pictures, which – we point out – cannot be understood as a harbinger of PSVR 2.
