1.iPhone X refurbished vs new

A refurbished iPhone is of course different from a brand new model. A device that has been refurbished has been used but then checked by a professional party. During this check, defective or damaged parts are replaced.

Although with refurbished you actually buy a second-hand device, you do get the assurance that the device has been repaired where necessary. Moreover, you can hold the refurbished seller liable, which is a lot easier than buying a second-hand iPhone via Marktplaats.

2. Software support: how long has the iPhone X been relevant?

The iPhone X is from 2017, and although the device still looks very modern, software support is something to be reckoned with. Normally, Apple supports iPhone with iOS versions for at least five years. That would mean that the iPhone X will receive an update to iOS 15 at least this year and will make the switch to iOS 16 in 2022.

After that, the question becomes whether the iPhone X can still keep up with the latest software. That’s an important thing to consider if you’re still buying an iPhone X right now. Do you want to use the device for two years and then (for example when your subscription expires) switch to something new? Then the iPhone X is still a great buy. If you want to use a smartphone for more than two years, it is advisable to look at a slightly newer model.

3. Value for money

The iPhone X is available refurbished for a wide variety of prices. That is not surprising: this mainly depends on the condition of the device. Three conditions are used in the refurbished world: Visibly used, lightly used and as good as new.

A visibly used iPhone X with 64GB of memory costs 350 euros at the time of writing. Do you prefer a device that looks a bit newer? Then you pay 399 euros for a as good as new iPhone X with 64GB.

4. How good will the iPhone X be in 2021?

How good the iPhone X will be in 2021, the iPhoned editors have recently tested extensively. In our review update, we said the following about it:

The iPhone X will still look like a modern smartphone in 2021, but appearances can be deceiving. This is a phone from 2017 in a hip jacket, and you will now slowly but surely notice the consequences. We expect the iPhone X to still perform well in 2021 and 2022 and be more than adequate for most people.

Support for new updates will likely stop in two years, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to get an X now. Apart from that, the iPhone X is still a nice device for daily use, with good performance and a camera that does what you want, as long as you don’t expect too much from it.
