The Play Store is changing the app rating system. What will we (not) see?

Google introduced a new one on its developer blog a few hours ago system for evaluating applications in the official Play Store database. When expressing (dis) satisfaction through the stars, users will have the same opportunities as before. But soon they will not see completely all the reactions of other users from all over the world. Due to the fragmentation of applications across multiple regions and devices, Google will implement new breakdown.

In the case of written reviews, the Play Store already tries to show users those that are written in their language or come from their area. Similar filtering will be even stricter in a few weeks and will be added to it adjusted star visibility. As of November 2021, users will only see ratings that have been submitted from that region. The reason is the fact that in different countries or regions errors may occur in applications or, conversely, positive news may be introduced independently of neighboring regions. The new system should try to provide not only those interested in applications, but also their developers with more relevant feedback.

At the beginning of 2022, another division will come, which will take into account different types of equipment. Since it is logical that an application (typically Google Maps, for example) may work differently on a mobile phone, tablet, watch, Chromebook or, for example, in the Android Auto environment, with different reliability or news, Google will also take this into account. In about half a year, the visibility of the evaluation will be affected not only by the region but also by the facility, from which the user displays the application card.
