The next iPad Pro would have new connectors
We should expect a change in terms of the connector on the back of the next iPad Pro, with four pins instead of three currently according to information from Macotakara. The Japanese site generally has good information related to Apple.
This four-pin connector could help power accessories that plug into the iPad Pro’s USB-C port. It’s also worth noting that iPadOS 16 will allow accessory makers to create drivers for the iPad with the addition of DriverKit support. Manufacturers could use the new four-pin connector to make this process easier.
However, a question may arise: what will happen to the existing Smart Connector with three pins? Are we really going to end up with accessories supporting three pins and others four pins? It could quickly become a mess between old and new iPads.
The latest news is that Apple is working on new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros that are expected to release in the fall. It was recently reported that Apple plans to delay the launch of iPadOS 16 until October, which could coincide with the launch of the new tablets. The iPad Pro 2022 will have the right to the M2 chip and MagSafe support.
