The largest supernova and a great strike

We hope you had a good day and now we want to give you some exciting information to take with you into the evening. t3n Daily is also available as a podcast and as a newsletter. Here are the topics of the day.

Largest supernova ever recorded observed

More than ten times brighter than any previously known supernova: Researchers have observed the largest cosmic explosion ever recorded. And it’s not just the brightness with which the explosion, dubbed AT2021lwx, surpasses previous supernovae. What makes them even more impressive is their long-lasting duration, more than three years to date. Most exploding stars remain visible for only a few months.

Despite the enormous distance of almost eight billion light-years, the explosion was spotted by a network of telescopes. “We stumbled upon it because our search algorithm picked it up when we were looking for a supernova,” said research leader Philip Wiseman of the University of Southampton. The astronomers suspect that the explosion is the result of the destruction of a gigantic cloud of gas by a black hole. The gas cloud could even be 1,000 times larger than our sun.

Are employees allowed to stay at home due to the rail strike?

It just doesn’t stop with the traffic chaos: On Monday and Tuesday, local public transport will be on strike again. The warning strike, for which the services union Verdi and the railway and transport union EVG have joined forces, not only paralyzes public transport, but also affects almost all parts of Germany. But does that mean that professionals don’t have to drive to the office?

Unfortunately, no. The right to strike of other professional groups has no influence on the work performance of others. The workers therefore have to think carefully in advance about how they will get to work. If in doubt, this also means that you have to switch to other means of transport such as a bicycle or taxi – at your own expense, of course.

Tired of all the stress? Anyone who can work from home should make use of this option. In an emergency, you can also take a day off – in good time, of course.

US trains Ukrainian investigators to fight crypto crime

The US tax authority IRS and Ukrainian investigators are fighting together against crypto crime and to promote global security. In order to better arm themselves against illegal activities in the cryptocurrency sector, the Ukrainian officials are being trained by the USA. The training focuses on analyzing transactions and financial networks on the blockchain to identify suspicious activity, especially those that violate existing sanctions.

The goal is to provide the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively monitor cryptocurrencies and uncover potential breaches. The US is actively supporting Ukrainian investigators in exposing cryptocurrencies used by sanctioned Russian oligarchs and their financial networks. The US tax authority IRS has also provided Ukrainian officials with licenses for Chainalysis analysis software. Investigators have already been trained on how to use the program, both virtually and in person at the US Consulate General in Frankfurt.

Simply in the browser: test 40 Linux distributions

Much more than just something for nerds and network geeks, Linux is considered by many to be the best x86-based operating system. Despite this, many are still reluctant to make the switch from Windows. But now there is a website that will help you try your dream system directly in your browser in a virtual machine (VM) without installation: distrosea.com.

With Distrosea you can try almost 40 distributions without installing anything or making any deep changes to your own system. Quite simply and without much effort, all you have to do is call up the website and select a distribution. Thanks to Valve, the operator of Steam, which is increasingly focusing on Linux, there are now even current games on this platform. Linux has also caught up in the field of (semi-)professional application software. In short: it is definitely worth taking a look at the different distributions.

Whether it’s lifting heavy objects, completing complex tasks or just being able to multitask: Jizai Arms are designed to support humans and expand their abilities.

in one promotional video Jizai is showing two robotic arm models demonstrating the system’s capabilities. The robotic arms, which are carried on the back, imitate the movements of the human arms to the beat of classical music.
