The iPhone 13 may not be released in September: here’s why

Apple closed its quarterly results presentation with a warning. The company is counting on production problems that mainly affect the iPhone and iPad. As a result, the iPhone 13 may not be released in September.

Read on after the ad.

Is the iPhone 13 coming in September? Maybe not

It was a great mood at Apple during the presentation of the quarterly results. And why not? 50 percent more iPhones were sold, the Apple Watch and AirPods are now larger than the iPad and Mac, and sales rose again.

But it’s not all roses and roses. At the end of the presentation, Luca Maestri, the financial man at Apple, warned that the company fears production problems. These would mainly affect the iPhone and iPad arm of the company.

Without calling the animal by name, Maestri may be talking about chip shortages here. Because of supply chain problems, almost all major tech companies suffer from this. New products are pushed back, or even canceled altogether.

The chip can best be seen as the engine of an iPhone. This ensures that the device has enough computing power to perform everything you instruct it to do. Think of opening apps, taking photos or playing heavy games.

Apple makes its own chips, but uses other factories and suppliers for this. The entire chain of chips is very complex and delays at one link cause delays throughout the chain.

Apple issues cautious warning

Does that mean we know for sure that the iPhone 13 won’t come in September? No, not that. Apple is always tight-lipped when it comes to new products and until the presentation of the new iPhone you will not even hear Apple mention the name “iPhone 13” at all.

The company does issue several warnings in a subtle way. Financial CEO Maestri says, for example, that he expects the next quarter’s turnover to be lower than that of the previous period.

Last year, the September quarter was also disappointing, because the iPhone 12 appeared in two rounds: in October and November. Maestri’s words therefore indicate that Apple is taking into account a delay of the iPhone 13.
