Xiaomi Mi 11: first flagship in 2021?

The first interesting mobile phone innovations in 2021 are already waiting for us in January. It starts with the Xiaomi Mi 11, whose Germany release will probably take place in January. In China it will even be so far at the end of 2020. But experience shows that we have to wait at least a little longer.

What is certain is that Qualcomm’s new top chipset Snapdragon 888 will be on board – its first ever use in a smartphone. Another highlight is likely to be the built-in high-resolution camera, which is said to have already been shown in the first pictures.

You can also assume that Xiaomi will give the device a Pro version and various offshoots. So get ready to see a Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11T and Mi 11T Pro in 2021. Not to be confused with the Xiaomi Mi Note 11 and the Xiaomi Mi Note 11 Pro, which are also to be expected. Just like many Redmi smartphones – for a slightly smaller budget.

Samsung: Galaxy S21 and A52, but no Galaxy Note 21?

The Galaxy S21 will shortly follow the Xiaomi Mi 11. Samsung is rumored to unveil its upcoming flagship on January 14th – earlier in the year than its predecessor. Due to numerous leaks, we already have a very good picture of what to expect. Both the design and the fittings have already been leaked. The device should therefore be one of the cell phone innovations in 2021 that will hardly surprise us.

Usually, Samsung continues its Galaxy Note range towards the end of the year. But it could have had its day in 2021. Most recently it was said that the series has no future. The S Pen, which has so far been the unique selling point of the Note series, is to find a new home in the Galaxy S series.

It will definitely continue for the popular A series. The Galaxy A52, which we expect in January 2021 – together with its big brother, the Galaxy A72, should be of particular interest to many. In addition, Samsung will bring out a number of other entry-level and mid-range models.

Which iPhones will appear in 2021

It used to be clear: New year, new iPhone. In the meantime, Apple has greatly expanded its portfolio and adapted it to various target groups. Five different models appeared in 2020. At least four of them should have a direct successor. The iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are likely to be found among Apple’s mobile phone innovations for 2021. Only a waiver of the compact model is conceivable, provided that the iPhone 12 mini does not achieve the desired success and small cell phones will simply no longer be in demand in 2021.

The most uncertain thing is whether the currently cheapest Apple cell phone will have a successor: There are no concrete indications of an iPhone SE (2021) yet. We will certainly have to wait a while for the first pictures of the iPhones for 2021. Because Apple usually keeps its future devices under lock and key than the competition.

Huawei P50: With a top camera, but without Google?

Despite all the current challenges, Huawei will also be responsible for various mobile phone innovations in 2021. We are particularly excited to see how the two flagship series will continue. Because, as usual, the beginning will be the P series. We expect nothing less than the best smartphone camera on the market from the Huawei P50 Pro.

Unfortunately, we think it is just as likely that this device will also come onto the market without Google services. Whether we are right or not remains to be seen in March or April 2021. It is relatively certain that Huawei is still using its own Kirin chips for the P50.

That could no longer be the case with the Huawei Mate 50 (Pro), which will be released six months later. The trade dispute with the USA has meant that the Chinese can no longer produce their own smartphone chips. But by autumn of next year things may look completely different – after all, something has happened in the White House too. We will see …

We also expect interesting new mid-range smartphones from Huawei in 2021. How attractive the P50 Lite, Mate 50 Lite and the like will be remains to be seen. A possible lack of Google services is at least somewhat easier to get over in this price range than with the high-end models.

Oppo: Find X3 (Pro) and Reno 5 (Pro)

Oppo started to gain a foothold in Germany in 2020 – and will continue to delight us with new cell phones in 2021. We are most curious about the Oppo Find X3 Pro, because the predecessor made a great impression on us. In 2021, three new models of the X series are to appear, in the second quarter of 2021.

Dem According to Leaker Evan Blass The Oppo Find X3 Pro bears the code name “Fussi” and will be characterized by the Snapdragon 888, a 50 MP quad camera and a 6.7 inch 120 Hz display. The Oppo Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro have already been unveiled, but will not be available in Germany until 2021. These are two upper middle class cell phones, the backs of which glow in the dark.

OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro

Two other interesting mobile phone innovations for 2021 are the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. Many fans of the brand are likely to long for the latter, as the manufacturer decided not to use a Pro version in 2020. The clip is supposed to show the latest prototype, but changes are still possible up to the production model. As things stand, we can expect a quad camera and a 6.7-inch curved display, among other things. We’ll find out in March whether this will actually happen, when both the OnePlus 9 and its Pro version are due to celebrate their premiere.
