The Google smartwatch is really that successful
With the Pixel Watch, Google is offering its own smartwatch for the first time. The group prefers to keep to itself whether it sells well or badly. But a publicly visible key figure cannot be argued away – and it is quite revealing.
Pixel Watch: App reaches milestone
Smartwatch customers have had more choice since October last year. For the first time, they can choose a watch directly from Google, the developer of the installed Wear OS operating system. Whether the first Pixel Watch is a success or not Google has been silent about this so far.
Nevertheless it is possible roughly estimate how many units of the watch Google has already sold. This is due to the associated Pixel Watch app. With Wear OS 3.0, it became mandatory for manufacturers to offer a companion app and no longer solely rely on features of Wear OS itself.
In the Google Play Store, the Pixel Watch app has just reached an important milestone: 500,000 users have downloaded the app (Source: Play Store). While that doesn’t mean Google was able to sell the Pixel Watch half a million times, the number of downloads is a key indicator. Without owning a Google wearable, the app is simply useless.
How many customers have consciously chosen the smartwatch is another question. Quite a few are likely to consider a Pixel Watch free addition to the Pixel 7 Pro smartphone have received. Google had pre-ordered the smartwatch in the package.

Google: Pixel phones are selling well
While Google hasn’t commented on the success or failure of the Pixel Watch, it looks different with the Pixel phones. Here, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai recently announced that pixel smartphones will sell at their best in 2022. The next success is sought with the Pixel Fold.
