The forgotten smartphone: Nokia Lumia 1020

For this edition of ‘The forgotten smartphone’ we go back to the time when Microsoft released colorful devices under the brand name ‘Nokia’. We discuss the legendary Nokia Lumia 1020.

Nokia Lumia 1020

Microsoft has been able to release devices under the Nokia name for years. Of course at the time the smartphones were equipped with the Windows Phone operating system. The Nokia Lumia 1020 was one of these and had to be a worthy alternative to devices with, for example, Android and the iPhone from Apple.

Camera

The Nokia Lumia 1020 mainly revolved around the use of the camera. On the back, the Lumia was equipped with a 41 megapixel so-called PureView camera. This technique was applied by the Finnish manufacturer in several devices. It didn’t stop there in terms of possibilities. There was autofocus, optical image stabilization, an aperture of f/2.2, Xenon and LED flash and 4x digital zoom. With optical image stabilization, the 1020 was one of the first smartphones with this.

In addition, you could make your videos with the video camera in Full HD. The lens was a 26 mm lens, so you got a lot of footage captured. You could also hold the phone closer to subjects to capture small subjects well. The Nokia Lumia 1020 was also equipped with an extensive camera app full of settings that you could adjust manually. You could also take RAW photos with the Nokia device. On the front was a 1.2 megapixel front camera.

You had to do it with this, because a memory card slot was not found on the Lumia.

We also saw WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS with HERE Maps navigation app, a 2000 mAh battery and even NFC. The smartphone came with Windows Phone 8 and was later upgraded to Windows Phone 8.1. Unfortunately, the yellow, white or black colored phone did not get an update to Windows Phone 10.
