The first year of 5G in Telekom. Expanded coverage, supported smartphones and roaming

Telekom celebrates the 1st anniversary of the commercial operation of the 5G network in Bratislava, which it started as the first Slovak operator. He has achieved several significant successes in the last year. Coverage has expanded significantly, a large number of smartphones with 5G support have been added, and 5G roaming has also been launched.

The first year of 5G in Telekom

Telekom was the first operator to launch a 5G network in our capital. During the year, the coverage expanded considerably and dozens of new locations were added. Currently, it is possible to use the most modern network in almost the entire territory of Bratislava (with the exception of Čunov), but also in many surrounding villages.

From 8 parts of Bratislava, coverage has expanded to the countryside. Beyond the borders of the capital, the 5G network began to expand on June 21, and the first municipalities covered were Dunajská Lužná, Tomášov and Veľký Biel. Later, their number expanded to 25 municipalities in the Bratislava and Trnava regions.

39 telem networks already have access to Telekom’s 5G network

It’s no secret that owning a 5G smartphone and being in an area covered by a 5G network is not enough. It is also an important factor that the operator optimizes a specific model for its network, otherwise 5G will not work. And Telekom is doing best among all Slovak operators.

It all started with the support of 12 devices from five manufacturers (Samsung, Apple, Huawei Xiaomi, OnePlus). Most of the supported models were flagships, but the affordable Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite was also present.

During the year, the number of supported smartphones gradually increased and all the popular pieces were added. The Samsung Galaxy A series, as well as the new iPhones 13, were not to be missed. The list of supported manufacturers was expanded to include Motorola and OPPO.

Samsung (13) currently has the most supported 5G smartphones, followed by Xiaomi (9) and Apple (8). In total, 39 smartphones from seven manufacturers are already supported. Currently the best selling 5G phones are the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A52s 5G.
