The first MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and iPad Pro will become “old” for Apple

Several Apple products will have legacy status starting July 31, including the first MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

This is through a memo sent to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Centers (intercepted by MacRumors) that we learn of the status “old products” from July 31 for several products.

The first MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar was released in October 2016. This famous Touch Bar is a small screen that replaces the function keys (F1, F2, etc.) to do the same thing, but with a touch area. It turns out that a lot of people don’t like it, which caused Apple to abandon it… well, almost. It is still found on the 13-inch MacBook Pro. But he’s the only one to keep it.

The new list of legacy products will also include iMacs and iPad Pros, here are the products in question:

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, two Thunderbolt ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, four Thunderbolt ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Air (13-inch, early 2015)
  • MacBook (12 inch, early 2016)
  • iMac (21.5 inch, Late 2015)
  • iMac (27-inch, Retina 5K, Late 2015)
  • iPad Pro (9.7-inch, Wi-Fi)
  • iPad Pro (9.7-inch, Wi-Fi + Cellular)

For Apple, legacy products include models that have not been manufactured for more than five years (no more than seven years at most). The group no longer performs hardware repairs on older products, with the exception of a few Macs, AirPort terminals and monitors.

There are also obsolete products which include models that have not been produced for more than seven years. Apple no longer performs hardware repairs on obsolete products, no exceptions.
