The finest display in the world? Samsung is working on an unprecedented technology
Technological leaders are constantly working on innovations that push the boundaries of what is known. It’s quite a natural thing. Customers expect to get better and better technology for their money every year. The world of smartphones is no different. On the contrary, this is where we can perceive this trend most actively.
Well-known smartphone manufacturers are openly competing in who will launch the best possible model on the market. Currently, Samsung also wants to take the lead, although it is not entirely clear whether it is targeting smartphones directly. According to the SamMobile portal, the South Korean giant set to work on a display that was truly remarkable. It would be the finest display in the world.
1000 pixels per inch
Specifically, an AMOLED panel with a pixel density of 1000 ppi is to be prepared. Details are still missing and it has not been officially confirmed, but we can most likely assume that the new panel will be designed specifically for mobile devices.
If the new panel were to be used in a smartphone, it would be a truly remarkable success. For comparison, the finest display currently has a Sony Xperia 1 II smartphone, on which we find a 6.5-inch OLED with a density of 643 ppi.
Lower consumption, faster response
Samsung wants to achieve its goal thanks to a completely new technology of thin film transistors (TFT) for AMOLED panels. In addition to the unprecedented pixel density, the new displays also boast a much faster response time.
Compared to the currently used technology, it should be up to 10 times faster. To make matters worse, the intention to achieve much lower consumption is also mentioned, and the cheaper production process is wedged.
However, we will have to wait for that time for the result. The company currently expects that the first panels of the new type will be available around 2024.
