The Evercade VS is a true retro gaming console

Retro gaming is fun. And before that, there’s the new Evercade VS which takes the whole thing to a new height (and is cheap).

A few years ago, retro gaming was in a flow. Because everyone wanted a retro console at the time and all the big players almost participated. Often with a specific game, the producers have all released ‘mini’ versions of their most iconic consoles.

And then in 2020 there was Evercade. A refreshingly different take on the new-yet-old console idea. Rather than a “mini” version of vintage hardware, it was a new handheld that includes cartridges. Each cartridge contained a collection of classic games from different developers.

The idea of potentially unlimited games via real cartridges was a bold one (retro gamers aren’t known for paying for titles). Still, the idea must have caught on. This is because the company soon revealed plans for a more traditional version of the home console. The device is finally here and it offers a few interesting advantages over its portable sibling.

The Evercade VS as the system is called is the same size as the handheld, so you don’t have to buy anything again. In fact, you can play on one, save your game and pick it up on the other (just like you’d hope, to be honest). It’s worth noting that two titles (both Namco collections) are only compatible with the handheld due to licensing issues.

There are also other benefits to the home-based console. Most notably support for multiplayer (up to four players where games support it), WiFi for over-the-air updates and a cool new interface. You can already reserve the console for 129 euros.
