How do I find a good cell phone contract under 10 euros?

Note the following points to find a cell phone contract under 10 euros that is perfectly tailored to your needs. Or use our comparison calculator, where you can make different filter settings to get an individual offer.

  • Network: Telekom, Vodafone or o2? The choice of mobile network depends primarily on where you live, as regional differences are still significant. In cities, Telekom, Vodafone and o2 are almost on par, outside the situation is different. In rural areas, Telekom comes out on top, followed by Vodafone in second place and o2 in third place. Since these are average values, if in doubt you should ask your neighbours, friends and relatives in your area which network they have had good experiences with.
  • Data volume: In addition to the network, the amount of data volume plays a decisive role in the pricing of a mobile phone contract. The more data volume, the more expensive the tariff is usually. A bargain is in sight, especially if you get as many gigabytes as possible for less than 10 euros per month. After the inclusive volume has been used up, most providers throttle the tariff to such a low speed that mobile surfing is almost impossible.
  • Speed: In megabits per second, the providers indicate how fast downloads and uploads are possible in the best case. The same applies here: the more MBit/s, the better – even though the maximum speed is rarely reached. From just 21.6 MBit/s, almost all essential applications can be used, from writing WhatsApp messages to watching YouTube videos. Most tariffs under 10 euros offer LTE speeds of up to 50 MBit/s, which is completely sufficient.
  • LTE & 5G: Luckily, there are hardly any tariffs without LTE anymore. If you are still stuck in an old contract without LTE, you should urgently cancel because the old mobile phone standards will be switched off in the near future. 5G does not yet play a role in mobile phone tariffs under 10 euros, because the new standard is currently only available in the expensive tariffs from Telekom, Vodafone and o2 direct. 5G is not necessary anyway – and only very few currently have a 5G-capable smartphone.
  • Telephony & SMS: Almost all mobile phone contracts under 10 euros include a flat rate for telephony and mostly also for SMS. However, since hardly anyone writes SMS anymore and messengers such as WhatsApp and Co. are increasingly used when making calls, the amount of data volume plays a much more important role when choosing a tariff.
  • Contract term & notice period: The classic mobile phone contract provides for a minimum term of 24 months with a notice period of 1 month. If the contract is not terminated at the end of the minimum term, it will be extended indefinitely and can be terminated at any time with a notice period of 1 month. Inexpensive SIM-only mobile phone contracts under 10 euros can often be booked without a term, with a notice period of 1 to 3 months. However, you usually have to pay a slightly higher (one-time) connection price for this.
  • Data automatic: If the data volume is used up before the end of the month, a few hundred megabytes are automatically added. However, this has its (high) price, so it is better to book a tariff right away that includes sufficient data volume and deactivate the data automatic.

Take your number with you: This is how it works smoothly

Most of us want to keep our phone number when changing contracts. Mobile phone providers are now even obliged to release the phone number in the event of termination and to transfer it to a new provider. Since the end of 2021, porting your phone number has been completely free and some providers even pay a bonus of up to 50 euros if you take your old cell phone number with you.
