The best small TVs up to 43 inches

43 inches and less are rightly popular: Small TVs are not only cheaper, in many cases they are even the better choice. For the student flat share, for the bedroom, for the camper – we introduce you to compact TVs that are worth a look.

Toshiba 24WK3C64DAY (24 inch)

Only 55.3 cm wide and 36.2 cm high – the Toshiba 24WK3C64DAY (view at Amazon) is extremely compact and a hot candidate for the mobile home, the guest room or the hobby room. The screen diagonal of 24 inches (approx. 61 cm) is comparable to a medium-sized PC monitor – this should be taken into account when considering the viewing distance. For such small models, a distance of 2 meters (or less) is recommended. The resolution of the panel is only 1,366 × 768 pixels (“HD-Ready”), which is lower than Full HD – with this size and the typical purposes (news, talk shows), that’s manageable. However, this mini television is not the first choice for thrilling home cinema evenings.

The Toshiba 24WK3C64DAY is a smart TV that comes with important apps such as Prime Video, Netflix, and YouTube already installed and can even be started via quick access on the remote control. Useful connections such as a headphone jack (3.5mm) and Ethernet are present. One of the two HDMI ports supports ARC (Audio Return Channel) for connecting a soundbar. The model is available in both black and white.

Disadvantages:

Hisense 32A4EG (32 inch)

Attention, price breakers: Den Hisense 32A4EG model 2022 (view at Amazon) can be found in stores for less than 200 euros, sometimes even significantly less. No wonder that this model is currently the number 1 Amazon bestseller in the “TV” category (as of September 2nd, 2022). Incidentally, the Chinese company Hisense is the fourth largest TV manufacturer in the world in terms of market share (source: extra) and is no longer an insider tip, especially in the lower price segment, but an established brand.

One of the highlights of this smart TV is certainly the game mode, which keeps the input delay in video games as low as possible. The seamless “unibody design” of the metal frame can also surprise you at the low price. Certain compromises (no HDR, panel with only 60 Hz) can be made, but they are okay in this price range. Only the 720p resolution is almost too low for a screen diagonal of 32 inches (approx. 81 cm). The same applies here: This is acceptable for casual games, news programs and light TV entertainment, but not enough for cinema films and triple-A games.

LG 43UP78009LB (43 inch)

The Stiftung Warentest (issue 02/2022) awarded the overall grade 2.4 (“good”) for the LG 43UP78009LB (view at Saturn). The picture received a sub-grade of 2.4 (“good”). A 2.0 (“good”) for sound, handling and versatility – making the model the best in the “40-43 inch” size class. A remarkable success, because the LG television was able to set itself apart from much more expensive TV sets from Samsung, Sony, Philips and Panasonic.

The 43-incher is an interesting option if little space is required and the latest features are to be combined. A high-resolution UHD panel (3,840 × 2,160 pixels) is installed, which also supports high contrasts with HDR10 and HLG. The smart TV works with the proven webOS 6.0 operating system and, thanks to Airplay 2, also accepts streams from Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.). It’s a pity that there are only 2 HDMI sockets (one with eARC) and that the headphone socket has also been omitted. Otherwise a complete package.
