The Android 13 Beta 1 for Google TV is out: not exactly stable yet
Google has started beta testing of Android 13 on Google TV. It has not communicated about this, but it has come so far for the ADT-3 developer kit. The test version is therefore live for developers so that they can connect their apps to Android 13. However, it does not appear to run very stable yet.
Android TV and Google TV
9to5Google writes that there are different ways to test for Android TV and for Google TV, but they both have a test option via the Android emulator on television. However, it is not a very nice experience, because all kinds of different problems have already been reported. It turns out that with some apps not everything works if you connect Bluetooth headphones.
There are also other Bluetooth issues, because when you try to pair a Bluetooth gadget with the TV, you are unable to search for Bluetooth options from the side button on the ADT-3 device. There is an alternative way of working for this, namely by enabling the ADB control.
Remote control
You shouldn’t want to change the buttons on the remote too much, as it is currently not possible to access the Remote & Accessories menu when it comes to setting buttons on the remote. If you have an LG television and you participate in the beta, you probably don’t even have the option to use the remote control at all.
Unfortunately, there is more that is still missing, but hey, there’s a beta for that, of course: when you want to cast to a 4K television, only the top left part of the image is shown. If you use the Google Play Movies app, 4K playback will not work: you will only see a gray screen. In the case of iOS devices, the Google Home app is unable to establish a connection with the ADT-3 device, so (not coincidentally, of course) it is recommended to use an Android device.
beta test
It is hoped that the beta test continues to go well and the issues can be resolved soon. But especially that developers can tailor their apps even better to the new Android 13.
What do you hope will come to the operating system for televisions? Leave it in the comments below this article.
