A DualSense controller is also included with every PS5. However, if you buy Sony’s current console, especially from other suppliers, you should take a look at the serial number of your gamepad to find out whether you have an old or one of the newer models. Because that makes a big difference.

PS5: Just flip your controllers

The DualSense controller of the PlayStation 5 offers numerous innovations in contrast to that of the PlayStation 4. Above all, the adaptive triggers make the gaming experience even more intense. After about a year, however, fans were already reporting the first problems. For example, analog sticks should start to drift and triggers should wear out. That’s what Sony worked on. That’s why there were two models of the DualSense controller in circulation.

The new model is less prone to drifting sticks and worn out triggers, as YouTuber John Glasscock reveals in a video. He also shows how you can easily recognize the respective models. All you have to do is turn your controller over and take a look at the serial number. Both old models have the number 1 at the very end. Both Improved you will find the letter A instead at this point.

In the video, Glasscock shows you exactly what to look out for:

PS5: Which DualSense controllers have already been improved?

If you already got a PlayStation 5 in winter, you will have an old version of the controller. The improvement of the controllers started at the latest with the introduction of the new color variations such as Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. Here you should definitely keep an eye on the serial number.

With the controllers in the colors Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple you can assume that you already have an improved model in your hands.
