That’s how ugly the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera island gets

The camera island on the iPhone 14 Pro Max is expected to be the largest Apple has ever built into a smartphone. On new photos we see how thick the bump will really get. Spoiler: he is huge.

Read on after the ad.

Thicker camera island on iPhone 14 Pro Max

Like every year, the new iPhone 14 will receive a major camera update this year. The ultra-wide-angle lens is significantly improved on all models, the Pro iPhones also get a new standard wide-angle lens and telephoto lens. However, with all these updates, the camera bump on the back of this phone also needs tweaking.

As you can see in the video below, the camera island on the iPhone 14 Pro Max should be a lot thicker than on its predecessor. And probably this is also the case on the iPhone 14 Pro.

Where this photo comes from? Twitter user lipilipsy managed to obtain a dummy of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and made a video in which it compared it to the iPhone 13 Pro. That was then picked up by Apple delicious Majin Bu. See the tweet below.

What’s the benefit?

Now such a thick camera bump is very ugly, so what do you get in return? According to Apple oracle Ming-Chi Kuo, the resolution of the standard lens of the iPhone is quadrupled to 48 megapixels.

Under special circumstances (poor light for example), the pixels are combined to a resolution of 12 megapixels. This gives you an even better working night mode.

Finally, there is the matter of astrophotography. The higher resolution also comes in handy here, because more details can be captured. Thanks to smart algorithms, combined with digital zoom, you can take beautiful pictures of constellations and the moon.

Even more details

Incidentally, according to the leaked schematic drawings, the camera bump of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is 4.17 mm thick. With the iPhone 13 Pro Max, that was still 3.60 mm. The camera island size is expected to grow by about 5 percent in each direction. Then we have about 35.01 mm width to 36.73 mm and 36.24 mm height to 38.21 mm.

One thing is certain: the covers of the iPhone 13 can no longer be reused on the 14. Do you want to stay informed of all other developments surrounding the iPhone 14? Sign up for our newsletter!
