That’s how expensive heating gets in winter

It will soon be noticeably more expensive for gas customers in Germany. Now the price for the state gas levy has been set, which should benefit gas suppliers. According to Economics Minister Robert Habeck, consumers must be prepared for additional costs of several hundred euros.

Energy crisis: Gas levy at 2.419 cents per kilowatt hour

The amount of the state gas levy will increase in Germany 2.419 cents per kilowatt hour amount. This was announced by Trading Hub Europe, a joint venture of several gas network operators. The Ministry of Economics had previously assumed a range of between 1.5 and 5 cents per kilowatt hour.

The surcharge is intended to support gas suppliers who are currently buying gas from Russia at particularly high prices. Around 90 percent of the additional costs are to be absorbed by consumers. Gas levy: relief planned for citizens

Chancellor Olaf Scholz explained that “With the levy there will also be relief”, for example housing benefit and citizen benefit. Economics Minister Habeck also signaled that there will be further relief. Aid programs for the economy are also to be extended because of the ongoing energy crisis.
