Tesla wants to provide the first Supercharger V4 in 2023. This should allow electric cars to be charged with up to 1 megawatt. The rapid charging technology is primarily intended for the manufacturer’s semi-trucks, but at least the cybertruck should also be able to use the charging stations.

Tesla: Charging stations with 1 megawatt are coming

After some delay, Tesla has now started delivering the first units of its semi-truck. When making the announcement, Tesla boss Elon Musk also indicated that new charging stations can be expected from 2023. Of the Supercharger V4 is intended to speed up the charging process for e-cars again and can offer an output of up to 1 megawatt (source: Tesla).

It makes a difference how big the jump in performance is Look at the current generation clearly, which was introduced in 2019: With the Supercharger V3, the end of the flagpole is reached at 250 kilowatts. So the successor will be able to do four times as much. According to Musk, neither a new connection nor a new cable should be required.

What is certain is that the Supercharger V4, above all developed with Tesla’s semi-truck in mind which has a significantly more powerful battery than the manufacturer’s previous e-cars. According to Musk, the Supercharger V4 should also be able to supply the Cybertruck, which is still not available, with up to 1 megawatt. Other Tesla models were not mentioned in this context.

Teslas charge rapidly: What is the competition doing?

While Tesla is making great strides in charging power, the competition can really only look behind. After all, the fast charging stations from Ionity now offer up to 350 kilowatts – even if there is still no car in the network that can do anything with this charging capacity. With other charging stations, 50 to 150 kilowatts can be expected. Wall boxes for electric cars charge much more slowly.
