Tesla chooses the competition
Tesla needs tons of chips for its electric cars. The next big load should not come from Samsung. Tesla has instead opted for competition from Taiwan’s TSMC. The chips are to be produced in the USA.
Tesla: Samsung loses to TSMC
Corresponding reports have been around for a long time, now the new deal is probably fixed. Tesla’s next giant chip order will be run by TSMC and not by Samsung. The Taiwanese chip giant is said to deliver processors using the 4 nm process (source: DigiTimes Asia). Tesla becomes the seventh largest customer of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
Production of the chips that will help Tesla build self-driving cars will begin in 2024. She should report conducted in the US state of Arizona where TSMC set up a new production facility with around 250 employees last year. Tesla could thus secure tax advantages that companies can claim if they produce in the USA. Apple is also interested in TSMC’s Arizona plant.
For Samsung, on the other hand, these are bad news again. TSMC has just recently been able to secure more and more orders while Samsung lags behind. The gap between the two heavyweights is increasing.
As a small consolation, Samsung can at least take care of the Cameras from Tesla’s vision system show responsibility. There are also rumors that Tesla could use cameras from Samsung in the upcoming Cybertruck.

TSMC: Plans for factory in Germany
The world’s largest chip producer is now also thinking about a first plant in Europe. Dresden is considered the hottest candidate, a delegation from TSMC is expected for talks in Germany early next year. It should also go to possible funding for the construction of a factory.
