Tencent bought the authors of the Back 4 Blood -apkrig event

Chinese giant Tencent has bought the Turtle Rock Studios team. As a result, the authors of Left 4 Dead, Evolve or Back 4 Blood have to develop new titles and will continue to work under existing management. Tencent has already assured that Turtle Rock Studios will maintain their independence and the current team will continue to work as before. The business has no impact on Back 4 Blood and its development, the game, after all, came under the wings of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and nothing changes.

Studio president Steve Goldstein said he is looking forward to joining the Tencent family. He appreciated his global reach and knowledge in the field of gaming business. He also says that the team should maintain its autonomy and independent spirit. Tencent’s Eddie Chan said they were big fans of Turtle Rock and their games, especially the cooperative ones. They can’t wait to see what comes next, and they’re excited to be a part of their future.

Huge acquisitions and dozens of smaller investments

Co-founders Phil Robb and Chris Ashton remain in the leadership of the company. This is Tencent’s sixth major game acquisition this year alone. In recent months alone, he has invested in Klei Entertainment, Yager, Sumo Digital, Stunlock Studios and Fatshark. Lots of other deals then consist of smaller investments. Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad took this opportunity calculatedthat Tencent has bought a larger or smaller stake in more than a hundred gaming companies over the past year. According to him, a third of these deals should be those outside China.

The Turtle Rock Studios team was formed in 2002. It was bought by Valve in 2008, but in 2011 the studio was revived as a stand-alone. Even before the success of Left 4 Dead in 2008, its developers worked, for example, on the Counter-Strike action port for the original Xbox, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero or Half-Life 2: Deathmatch. However, their repeated attempt to start Evolve did not work out and they only managed to break through again this year with Back 4 Blood. In the meantime, they have done several games for Oculus Go and Oculus Quest.
