Telegram becomes paid: who should pay and for what?

Once criticized for its encryption, Telegram has since earned its stripes as a “respectable” app. It must be said that this encryption feature allowing you to keep your messages private has now become the norm. Used as an instant messenger, but also to create groups, public channels or video rooms, Telegram now has 700 million users. We are far from the 2 billion WhatsApp accounts, but the app created by the Durov brothers in 2013 is still ahead of Snapchat (500 million).

€5.49 per month? A little expensive, no?

To “improve and extend the service”, those responsible for the app are launching a Premium version of Telegram which will be rolled out gradually very soon. The price will be €5.49/month. A bit expensive in our opinion, but it’s up to you to see if the advantages are worth the effort…

The advantages of Telegram Premium:

  • Attachments increased from 2 GB to 4 GB. You do not need to be a Premium subscriber to receive an attachment of this size. All other limits are doubled: 1000 channels instead of 500, 20 swap folders instead of 10, etc.
  • No more advertising in public channels or elsewhere.
  • Maximum download speed, live or cloud. No more precision on the flow.
  • Automatic voice>text transcription with the possibility of correcting messages before sending.
  • Unique stickers and emojis with new additions every month.
  • Animated profile picture, Premium badge and new icons for the app.

But users who don’t want to pay will also enjoy new features very soon in version 8.8 like auto-save to Android gallery, better preview of trades, better bots and smoother animations at 120 fps.

Don’t forget to update Telegram when the app suggests it!
