T-Mobile warns against phishing emails about failed direct debits
Phishing emails come in many shapes and sizes. One that is going around a lot now is supposedly one from T-Mobile. You have been warned about emails asking you to pay a failed direct debit. But this one isn’t real.
T-Mobile phishing mail
The e-mail that would come from the name of T-Mobile is very similar to the original e-mails from T-Mobile. For example, the real last name is used, and we also see a text that T-Mobile itself uses in its mailing. It is really striking that the account number of T-Mobile is also in the e-mail. The invoice number used in the mail is 901714889451 and it concerns an amount of 31.96 euros on customer number 1.144595512.
So far nothing seems crazy going on. What the scammers hope for is that you press the button to pay the amount directly via iDEAL. This one is not linked to the official T-Mobile account number. A link is made to a rogue page, where the scammers aim to steal login details and thus empty your bank account.
The email states the following;
Dear Sir/Madam -last name-, Unfortunately, we were unable to collect your payment in full. We don’t know the cause; you can request this yourself from your bank. Your payment arrears now consist of the following invoices.”
T-Mobile is aware of this phishing email and advises not to click on the link, mark the email as spam and delete it.
