T-Mobile Netherlands is sold to investment companies

It was no secret that T-Mobile Netherlands was in the shop window. A buyer has now been found for the Dutch branch of the originally German provider. Some investment companies want to take over the provider, what will change?

T-Mobile Netherlands acquired

Telekom has been looking for a buyer for the Dutch branch of the provider, known here as T-Mobile, for some time now. The first rumors date from a few years ago and now it seems that a buyer has definitely been found for the magenta-colored provider. Investment companies Apex and Warburg Pincus will acquire T-Mobile.

T-Mobile is talking about a next growth phase with this acquisition. According to the provider, nothing will change with the takeover. This also means that in addition to T-Mobile, the brands Tele2, Ben and Simpel will also be continued. The company also emphasizes that it will continue to work with Open Dutch Fiber to further roll out fiber in the Netherlands.

Response

CEO Søren Abildgaard of T-Mobile has the following reaction about the acquisition of the brand in the Netherlands;

“Today is a big day for us. We are excited about the road ahead and about working with Apax and Warburg Pincus in the coming years. We set our strategy as a challenger on the Dutch market, continuing to challenge our competitors on quality, price and customer service. We remain committed to our promise to provide the best possible customer experience backed by the best mobile network in the world. We’ve come a long way. Through our continuous focus on innovation, we have positioned T-Mobile as a leading provider. We are the first mobile provider to offer Unlimited and nationwide 5G in the Netherlands. In addition, we already have a competitive offer for our customers who purchase fixed and mobile from us, but here too we will continue to challenge the competition. I am proud of what we have achieved as a team so far and I am delighted convinced that today more than ever we are ready for the next chapter.”

As usual, a takeover still has to be approved by the regulators. Both companies expect the deal to be completed before the end of 2021.
